Ohio, Sales tax goes up, income tax goes down

On the surface, it's a mixed bag for Ohio taxpayers.  On September 1, the sales tax rises by one-quarter-of-one-percent, but income taxes drop by 9%.

But, if you think about it, in exchange for higher taxes on consumption, we slash taxes on production.  Thus, we discourage consumption and encourage production, and savings and investment.

Those are the policies brought to us by Governor Kasich and the Republican legislature.

That seems to us to be generally the right approach.
