Schmidt named one of Congress' "most corrupt"

Citizens for Responsibility & Ethics in Washington (CREW) names local Congressman as one of Washington's worst
This news item caught COAST's attention: The Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has named local Congressman Jean Schmidt as one of the most corrupt members of the United States Congress. You can read the release here and the full 9-page report here.

CREW is the leading, non-partisan voice in D.C. on ethics in Congress, speaking out forcefully on the Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters ethics investigations, for example.

  1. She just went thru a very intense
investigation in Congress and passed with flying colors. Who is putting this message out?

  2. Read the content. Schmidt took $500,000 in gifts that weren't allowable.

  3. Kind of funny...back around 1983 Tom Luken was named one of the 10 worst Congressmen and COAST can't get enough!

  4. ^Jake,

One of the reasons Luken was so named had to do with him being "in the pocket of big railroads" while he was chair of the powerful House Transportation subcommittee on same.

The older and wiser Luken still has great regard for freight rail (as does COAST) but sees passenger rail for the boondoggle it is.

We remain hopeful that as you shed the foolishness of youth, you'll one day come around to the truth. Then we'll have a good laugh about it, just like we did with Luken.
