Mayor Mallory Violates Ethics Rules

Complaint addresses unreported travel, tickets and expense reimbursements
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. And while the rest of the city was dealing with the greatest economic crisis since the great depression, our feckless leader was GONE! A regular Carmen Sandiego, he popped up in Munich, Japan, Toronto, and even Portland, of all places. While everybody else had their travel restricted, the mayor found "outside sources" to avoid using city funds. Each of those is a gift that must be disclosed under state ethics rules. Apparently Mayor Mallory was too busy to do that.

Today, Mark Miller, COAST's treasurer filed a Complaint with the Ohio Ethcis Commisison over the failure of Mayor Mark Mallory to file required disclosures with the Ohio Ethics Commission. The undisclosed items included travel, tickets to the Macy's Music Festical, tickets to the Reds Opening Day and cell phone reimbursement.

"As we see it, Governor Bob Taft was charged and convicted for much less," said COAST Chairman Jason Gloyd. "These pernicious and unethical practices must be fully and properly disclosed for the voters to decide who should lead the City for the coming four years. The failure to complete the disclosure forms property fails to disclose those seeking favor with the Mayor."

A copy of the Complaint form and attachments are here.

  1. You guys are morons. He used non-city funds that are explicitly set aside for travel so that city leaders can try to encourage outside companies to relocate here. Though the cost of living and doing business is shocking low here, it's tough to grow the local tax base when those who don't live in the city meddle in city public policy decisions affecting economic development.

Answer honestly: what do you possibly have to gain by discouraging business to come here?

  2. That Miller has enough time to do this adds weight to the rumor that he is not regularly employed and lives off a large inheritance on one of the region's most expensive streets. Will COAST scrutinize Mayor Smitherman after they work tirelessly to get him in office through the back door?

    - You must mean pro-streetcar Cincinnatians for Progress Co-Chair Bobby Maly. Maly and his outside, big-money special interest group need to stay OUT of City policy decisions.

  4. And David, maybe you should have looked into the story before resorting to calling people names.

Per the Cincinnati Enquirer - "Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory has accepted $7,800 worth of FREE tickets to the Macy's Music Festival at Paul Brown Stadium over the past four years."

Are you saying he used non-city funds to accept FREE tickets? Who's the moron?

  5. Bris, take a minute to read:

    Ben said:
"He used non-city funds that are explicitly set aside for travel"

He said nothing about the Macy's Music Festival.

You take the time to read. Mark Miller's ethics complaint is specifically in regards to the Macy's Music Festival.

"Today, Mark Miller, COAST's treasurer filed a Complaint with the Ohio Ethcis Commisison over the failure of Mayor Mark Mallory to file required disclosures with the Ohio Ethics Commission. The undisclosed items included travel, TICKETS TO THE MACY'S MUSIC FESTIVAL...."

If David feels comfortable defending the ethically challenged Mallory just because he supports his pet profect the choo-choo boondoggle, then that's his business, but don't call people morons for questioning it and expect no response.

  7. "Maly and his outside, big-money special interest group need to stay OUT of City policy decisions."

Wait a minute, which group is trying to amend the city's charter again? 'Cause I could've sworn it was COAST, not CfP.

    ReplyDelete
  8. FACT: CfP is a special interest group with big money behind it and is lead by an outside meddler who does not even live in this City.

FACT: Big Government Travis supports EVERY SINGLE TAX LEVY on the ballot in Hamilton County this year.

  9. Glad to see that COAST has already decided Mallory's guilt, per the headline.

  10. Whoops Bris, you messed up here:

FACT: CfP is a special interest group with big money behind it and is lead by an outside meddler who does not even live in this City.

Think you meant that COAST is a special interest group with big money behind it and is lead by an outside meddler who does not even live in this city.

Last time I checked, Finney lived in Anderson Township.

  11. No CAAST, I got it right.

    1) Bobby Maly is the meddling outsider leading CfP. Hell, he doesn't even live in the State of Ohio much less the City of Cnicinnati.

    2) COAST is the big money special interest? Laughable. The campaign finance reports will be out next week. I'll bet you an ice cream sundae that CfP has maybe 100 times more special interest money behind it than COAST. Care to take me up on the offer.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bris, that all depends on what kind of ice cream sundae and where it's from. Your offer is pretty broad and confusing, could be interpreted as many different things...kind of like the language of Issue 9.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bris -

If you decry all the meddeling outside interests, why do you seek to expand upon a form of government that encourages the meddeling of outside interests? Issue campaigns draw out special interests. If you hate these special interests so much, STOP PUTTING REFERENDA ON THE FUCKING BALLOT. Like I said: you guys are morons.

You seem like you've got some ideas on how you'd like to run the city better. Cool. Do something about it and run for office. Don't hide behind a fake name. If you have a good idea, and you actually believe in it, claim it, and actually make it happen.

By the way - I'm still waiting to hear what COAST hopes to gain by stalling economic development.

  14. Less development in the city = More development in Columbia-Tusculum!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Columbia-Tusculum is inside the city limits, Wad. I think you meant Mason. Or West Chester. Neither of which will survive when gas hits $10/gal.

  16. Translation - Mallory can do whatever he wants because he supports the streetcar. Sounds like another Bob Taft.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No need to translate- I was crystal clear. But maybe reading comprehension is tough for you so I'll say it again:

If you legitimately have good ideas, put your name on them and make them happen yourself. Criticizing from afar and behind a veil will accomplish nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I support the streetcar! Nobody knows more about economic development than I do. Just look what wonders I did for the State of Ohio's economy. Mark Mallory is right - both about the streetcar and flaunting ethics rules. We have a lot in common!

When you think of the streetcar, think of Bob Taft!

  19. Fact: Stop the tax loving trolley freaks like David Ben and Travis! Stop the streetcar!

  21. Big shit anonymous. It's called a scrivenor's error.

    As David Ben would say,
"If you legitimately have good ideas, put your name on them and make them happen yourself. Criticizing from afar and behind a veil will accomplish nothing."

  22. I agree stop the streetcar No on Issue 9

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mallory is a criminal and the reason we chose the tinky winky trolley graphic is because that's about the level of intelligence he has. Vote yes on Nine to stop the all white trolley folley and Yes on 8 to stop the government from putting syphilis in the water! Thankfully, the NAACP is lead by someone like Chris Smitherman who revealed the truth behind the waterworks sale.

Although big spenders like David Ben and Travis don't want you to know the truth. They want you to vote for the library levy so that out of county residents can come rent the sopranos and check out Harry Potter!

  24. CAAST -
To be more clear - It's the kind of ice cream sundae that you could eat on a Metro bus, if you weren't a YP snob.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bris, again, not sure how supporting improved transportation options that benefit the entire community makes me a "snob." I take METRO regularly already and even METRO/SORTA have endorsed a NO vote for Issue 9, as they believe the streetcar would "complement" their existing service.

    http://cincystreetcar.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/sortametro-vote-no-on-issue-9/

    ReplyDelete
  26. Gee, that SORTA endorsement couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the SORTA Board is APPOINTED by politicians like Mark Mallory/Todd POrtune/etc. could it?

You scratch Mallory's back on the choo choo train and you get to keep your appointment. If you don't, then you get booted off the Board like Stephan Louis.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The only good thing the Phony Coney ever posted was when Stephan Louis said it best:

"The streetcar is like having an abortion without discussing the pregnancy first."

Vote yes on Issue 9 to abort the streetcar like an unwanted pregnancy!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thankfully, the NAACP is lead by someone like Chris Smitherman who revealed the truth behind the waterworks sale.

You mean like when he said that they'd use the water to send Syphilis to poor neighborhoods?

Yeah... you guys are just swimming neck deep in "truthiness".

  29. This coming from Coleman, an officer of the Hamilton County Young Democrats, who is forced to defend the likes of Mark Mallory.

  30. The only way we can stop this streetcar dead in its tracks is to pass Issue 9. Issue 9 requires voter approval for transit rail, requiring that voters approve any streetcar plan. If you want to stop the streetcar, the only way is to support Issue 9.

And it would in all likelihood stop the Cincy to Cleveland rail line being proposed and, contrary to what COAST says, it definitely would require a vote on improving the Zoo Safari train. The language is quite plain and specifically says "improvements" and it is passenger rail transportation. So if you want endless delays and loss of opportunities for our great city, by all means vote as this anonymous poster says, but as for me and my house, we're voting No on 9 and for Cincinnati's future.

Now back to more pertinent discussion of the topic at hand...
