A Match Made in Heaven

Trolleys will save us!
Casinos will save us!
What could possibly be better than a
Jolly Trolley Casino!?!

Here's a better idea. Let's knock off the cheesy gimmicks and just focus on being a good city. If government can simply catch the crooks, put out the fires, fill the potholes, pickup the trash, keep the grass mowed in the parks, not close the buildings & pools that we've already paid for, and maybe plant some flowers every once in a while, that would be a great start.

And at some point in the future, when we can afford it, it might make sense to build a passenger rail transportation system. Not as some get-rich-quick "economic development" scheme, but to actually provide transportation to the public. The general public. All of them, not just the "choice" ones.

When that time comes, we need to see a comprehensive plan, not a wish list. One with a dedicated source of operational funds that lasts as long as the trains. A plan which doesn't rely on liquidating productive assets like our water works or railroad for capital. A plan that citizens and neighborhoods participate in developing.

When the plan's ready, we need to make sure that everybody is on-board with it. That's right, we need to vote on it. We're voting on casinos, and even slot machines at race tracks. It's perfectly reasonable to vote on passenger rail transportation and liquidation of the Water Works. Vote YES ON ISSUES 8 & 9.

I will not support any landscaping boondoggles!

I believe that was on the ballot a few years ago, something called MetroMoves? I also believe that COAST was one of the groups arguing against it?

"We need to see a comprehensive plan"

Speaking of which, I hope to see all of you COASTers at the upcoming Plan Cincinnati meetings... well, the ones of you who actually live within the city, at least.

  2. You might see Cincinnatians4Progress Co-Chairman Bobb Maly there, but he DOES NOT live in the City.

I guess that makes his pro-streetcar viewpoint, and the views of his Progressor companions invalid huh Travis?

  3. Bris, what percentage of Cincinnatians for Progress members live within the city, and what percentage of COAST members live within the city? And which group is trying to amend the city's charter again?

Please condemn Bobby Maly for meddling in City business. We do not need outsiders like Maly telling us how to run our City.

We don't need meddling outsiders like Bobby Maly telling the citizens of the City of Cincinnati which things they can and cannot petition their government on.

Repudiate outside interference in our City. Vote YES on Issue nine to stop the streetcar, and end the influence of special interest groups led by outsiders.

  5. Travis, just admit it. You're against outside interference unless you're for it.

  6. Bris -- Actually Bobby Maly isn't meddling in city business. He's trying to prevent city business from being meddled with.

Anonymous -- You got me! Let's make a deal. I won't try to amend your city's charter, and you don't try to amend mine.

One man's meddling is another man's honest community activism. I don't want OUTSIDER Bobby Maly meddlign in my City's business!

  8. The majority of COAST's officers, including Chris Finney, who wrote the ballot language, live outside the city. Mally is the only Cincinnatians for Progress officer who lives outside the city, and he had nothing to do with this invented problem being brought before voters. So no, things aren't even close to being equal in this case, but this is all another desperate act by COAST.

  9. Bobby Maly is an intruder hell-bent on coming into our City and taking our voting rights away. Outside special interest should stay out of Cincinnati politics. We don't need Maly telling us what to do with our City. Stay acorss the river and try to get a trolley for Newport Bobby. Vote to stop outside meddling in our City's affairs. Vote YES on Issue 9.

  10. Don't be a hypocrite Provost. If you're going to criticize the anti-streetcar/pro-9 folks for supposedly not living inside the city, then you have to apply the same standards to the pro-streetcar/anti-9 side.

    Stop the Streetcar!
    Vote Yes on 9!
