Monzel v. Ghiz for Republican nomination to County Commission

It’s shaping up to be two Cincinnati Council members against each other vying for the Hamilton County Commission seat being vacated (thankfully) by David Pepper, who is running for State Treasurer. Both Chris Monzel and Leslie Ghiz have indicated to COASTers that they will be seeking the Republican nomination for the open Commission seat. Both have a long history as politicians and significant voting records on Cincinnati City Council on which to judge their candidacies. COAST looks forward to being part of a vibrant debate between these two seasoned politicians this spring.

  1. Too bad Ms. Ghiz voted to perpetuate the cesspool known as Fay Apartments by giving the millionair owner more millions in taxpayer dollars to "re-hab" this dilapidated, crime infested ghetto. She's cute and all, in a Katie Curic sort of way, but she is not my idea of a smart steward of public funds.

  2. I'm very pleased that Leslie Ghiz endorsed my fellow Democrat David Pepper for County Commissioner 4 years ago, giving us control of the Commission. In addition, Ghiz's votes for the streetcar and higher Sales Taxes were consistent with our deeply held Democratic values.

  3. Ms. Ghiz's voting record of reckless spending is also consistent with GOP spending as of late. I guess she would be the bi-partisan candidate.

  4. Is it true that Chris Monzel voted against the streetcar while Leslie Ghiz voted for it? There is nothing that Hamilton County needs more right now than a streetcar to serve OTR.

  5. Monzel can't win and Ghiz is the only one strong enough to effect the change needed to prevent what happened in downtown to happen to the county. I.m sure that the Dems on council would love her to leave and Monzel to stay as she refuses to do their bidding.

Considering Hamilton County wouldn't be funding it, paying for it or have anything to do with the streetcar.

  8. Countywide, a county GOP poll showed that Monzel had higher favorables and a higher favorable/unfavorable ratio than Ghiz. Monzel starts in a better position, has a much more attractive personality (read: polite and professional), and can't be tied to the streetcar, freedeom center subsidies, and higher Sales Taxes all voted for by Leslie Ghiz.

  9. I wouldn't vote for Ghiz if she was the last Republican candidate on earth. She is a Republican only when it's convenient for her to be so.

  10. Just Mark Miller here using another fake name.

  11. Another Fake Name = Hamilton County Democratic Party Executive Director Caleb Faux.

    I have proof.

Caleb - Get off the internet and hustle over to Todd Portune and Timmy Burke's houses! They need their driveways salted before the big snow. Time to earn your paycheck.

  12. Who cares about the name game.

Monzel has supported his fellow Republicans and opposed higher taxes and wasteful spending. Leslie Ghiz endorses Democrats, won't support Black Republicans, and has been a big supporter of higher taxes and the streetcar. Monzel all the way.

I'll take brass balls, government transparency and integrity anytime, which is Leslie Ghiz. Chris Monzel is a puppet and does what he is told. That is hard to trust. From the sounds of these posts, folks don't like being challenged by a woman who when she pulls out the win for the Republican Party, will be the first woman elected to Commission without being appointed. Ghiz is authentic and doesn't sell out. Hamilton County needs Leslie Ghiz to win back the Commission.
